Human Rights Measurement Initiative (HRMI)
The Human Rights Measurement Initiative (HRMI) is a global research collective that tracks the human rights performance of countries, and equips a wide range of global actors to use data to improve people’s lives. We aim to disrupt the status quo, and make human rights far more powerful.
The human rights ecosystem has historically lacked quantitative measurement, and the political will to deploy it. As an independent, not-for-profit research collective, we are filling this gap. We are working towards measuring all human rights in international treaties, for all countries, and have made a great start. We currently measure 13 major areas of human rights, using two methodologies. Each year, our data teams calculate scores for as many countries as possible, and publish the data on our online and open source Rights Tracker, freely available for the world.
