The United Nations held a High-Level Pledging Event last Wednesday, in a bid to rally donor support for Yemen, which has seen life-saving funding dry up in recent weeks. The ongoing war in Yemen has led to the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, according to the UN.
However, only $1.3 billion was pledged towards a $4.27 billion aid plan to provide critical food, clean water, healthcare, and protection, to more than 17 million people in need in Yemen.
“Yemen may have receded from the headlines, but the human suffering has not relented,” UN Secretary-General António Guterres said, opening the event. “A funding crunch risks catastrophe.”
