Tonga Meteorological Service has revealed parts of the nation are in drought. In their latest report, it was announced that Tongatapu and ‘Eau are currently in drought, with alerts and warnings in place for Niuafo’ou, Niuatoputapu, Ha’apai and Vava’u.
Coming off months of less than average rainfall, there is now a deficit of up to 30% less rain predicted over the coming months with the El Nino weather phenomenon. Tonga’s population has been encouraged to use water cautiously to conserve resources.
