Following the overturning of Roe v Wade in the US, reproductive and women’s rights groups are responding, warning that the ruling sets a dangerous precedent which will have global implications for reproductive health and rights.
The United Nations Population Fund released a statement raising concerns about unsafe abortions and maternal death. “Decisions reversing progress gained have a wider impact on the rights and choices of women and adolescents everywhere.”
Family Planning New Zealand was quick to respond to this news stating “... This is an issue of equity. Women of means will access services but it will impact women inequitably and access to abortion will depend on where you live ...Health care shouldn’t be a political issue, nor should access to health care depend on where you live. This is a sad day.”
