On Thursday 25 August 2022, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) and the Council for International Development (CID) co-hosted a hui on women’s leadership and political participation in the Pacific. Senior sector leaders, MFAT staff, Minister Nanaia Mahuta, and Louisa Wall, the newly appointed Tuia Tāngata Ambassador, joined the hui.
It was an excellent korero on the status of wāhine across the Pacific, the ways in which government can better connect with civil society to amplify and support women’s participation, and what the major barriers to participation are.
The CID members invited to join this hui provided thought-provoking feedback and ideas to the Minister and her team, with the korero being well received. The event was an inspiring and empowering opportunity to meet directly with Minister Mahuta, and CID was grateful to be able to co-host this. We look forward to continuing the conversation with both members and MFAT.
