On March 20, IPCC released the Synthesis Report of the AR6 – the fourth and final instalment of the sixth assessment report. This report is particularly important as it will be used to inform the 2023 Climate Summit taking place in Dubai later in the year. It will also be the last IPCC report released until 2030 – by which point being able to stay within the 1.5C threshold may no longer be possible.
The report recaps the climate change understandings examined in the last three working reports in the “current status and trends” section. The other two section focus on "long term" (2100) and "near future" (2030-2040) implications of climate change, the near future section specifically important in informing change in governments and policy.
