Following the announcement earlier this month that US funding for Ukraine will likely to run out by the end of 2023, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine met with US President Joe Biden on Tuesday in an attempt to secure more ongoing funding for the nation.
This comes as the EU also faces challenges in renewing financial aid, and Ukraine is in the early months of another brutal winter. According to the Ukraine Winter Response Plan released by OCHA in August, almost 18 million people, or half the nation’s population, are in need of humanitarian assistance, and nearly 5.1 million people remain internally displaced.
