MFAT: Advisor - Funds Manager

Manage the Ministry’s annual contestable fund for NZ NGO partners delivering international development projects and provide oversight to a portfolio of activities of around $50m.
Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
As our Fund Manager within the Partnerships team you will play a critical role in our Pacific and Development Group. The Partnerships team manages a $120m portfolio with New Zealand Non Government Organisations (NGOs) and their partners in the Asia Pacific region to deliver sustainable development impact and empower local communities.
This is a varied role in which you will:
- Manage annual contestable funding rounds
- Engage with NGO stakeholders to build interest and advise on fund criteria and processes, and seek periodic feedback on operation of the fund
- Manage all aspects of activity management including leading design, delivery, monitoring, evaluation and learning, financial accountability, and identifying and managing risks
- Respond to enquiries and provide specialist Manaaki fund advice
- Prepare design phase contracts for successful applicants per Manaaki round
- Analyse Fund management trends, portfolio insights and prepare reports and recommendations to Governance Group
- Advise on Partnerships policy and strategy issues and opportunities, based on Manaaki insights
- Capture and share lessons learned, including externally to contribute to sector capability development
- Conduct periodic operational reviews of the Manaaki fund and implement improvements as necessary
- Assess budgets and financial reporting, and manage contracts
The band for this role is $98,119 - $132749. The appointment range is likely to be $98,119,to $115,434 total remuneration – negotiable depending on experience.
At MFAT we have the ability to work from home and/or work flexible hours when necessary. Please note however this role is based primarily in Wellington and is not suitable for fully remote work.

- Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent work experience
- At least 5 years’ project/programme management experience
- Budget and financial forecasting/reporting experience
- Experience managing a grant funding mechanism or equivalent is ideal
- Relationship management experience with a range of stakeholders
