Last week, Oxfam Aotearoa launched the What She Makes campaign which calls on the biggest fashion brands in New Zealand to pay a living wage to garment workers in their supply chain. Garment workers around the world, particularly women, earn as little as $0.65 per hour, enduring long working hours for meagre wages that trap them in poverty. Clothing brands have the power and the responsibility to make sure that the women who make their clothes earn enough to live with dignity.
The campaign is working with six clothing brands in New Zealand: Kathmandu, Macpac, lululemon, H&M, Glassons, and Hallenstein Brothers. What She Makes will track them on their living wage journeys, particularly on five key milestones, the first of which is to make a credible, public commitment to pay the women who make their clothes overseas a living wage.
Together, we can hold the brands accountable. Sign the pledge here: What She Makes - Sign the pledge - Oxfam Aotearoa
