The University of Hawaii’s Kihei-based Pacific Disaster Centre has been named the laureate of the United Nations Sasakawa Award for Disaster Risk Reduction during the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction on Wednesday. The award is given every three years to individuals or institutions that have made an impact in reducing disaster risk. One of the key achievements of the centre is its National Disaster Preparedness Baseline Assessment programme. This puts disaster risk information into action and aligns action with the goals of the United Nations Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.
