The Pacific Community, the principal scientific and technical organisation in the Pacific region, has relaunched its youth ambassador initiative to alleviate unhealthy habits in Pacific communities. The initiative gives funds to Pacific youth to drive creative solutions towards reducing the unhealthy habits linked to non-communicable diseases. This includes the leading risk factors of using tobacco, the harmful consumption of alcohol and poor diets with a lack of physical activity. The programme has recently been restarted due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Projects thus far include Pacific youth in Tongatapu island, who aim to raise awareness of non-communicable diseases through an art workshop.
