A recent report by the Australian Red Cross gathered data from their national societies in six Asia-Pacific countries to assess the impact of Covid-19 on their organisations.
Local actors played a significant role in the pandemic response efforts, aided by Covid-related funding to deliver urgent assistance. However, the report highlighted numerous challenges faced by these Red Cross societies, such as meeting overhead costs, staffing, health concerns, and securing funding from international donors.
The findings highlight the missed opportunities for effective localisation during Covid19, and emphasise the need to strengthen partnerships and address systemic inequalities with local organisations.
