CID Talk: Tutapona - Mental health support for war-affected people

In this CID talk, Tim Manson, discussed the critical importance of mental health support for conflict survivors and outline Tutapona's new capacity building initiative, aimed at supporting other INGOs to effectively deliver Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) services. 

Tutapona is a specialist mental health organisation, with current operations in Uganda and Iraq. Since 2008, we have supported 56,327 war affected, displaced, survivors from conflicts in Syria, Rwanda, D. R. Congo and South Sudan. Tutapona works through local staff to provide targeted group-based and individual mental health therapy. Our programs deliver an average 67.8% increase in self-reported well-being among participants.

Tim Manson is the Vice President of Programs for Tutapona International, an INGO that provides mental health services to war affected people in Iraq and Uganda. Between 2014 and 2019 Tim and his wife Helen worked in Africa’s largest refugee setting in Uganda. He is now based in Auckland and has recently established Tutapona as a Charitable Trust in New Zealand. Tim has a Master of International Development from Massey University.
